The Weekend is near and I Need the Rest

This has been a huge week that everyone here in South East Queensland will be glad to put to bed as soon as we can. There is so much heartache and in some areas the smell is sickening. But I need to not dwell on this and deal with what is at hand.

This is unbelievable news about aquaponics. Here is the system for anyone: poor and rich alike.
Saves you your quality of life, your time, your resources, and many more.
Enter aquaponics, the whole of food gardening which has a small but growing group of followers, not least because its advantages seem almost too good for being true. An aquaponics installation requires no soil, scant water (two-ten percent of what’s employed in usual vegetable garden), a modest financial outlay and minimal maintenance. There’s no coping with pesticides, and also the system is sustainable and straightforward to set up. For gardeners alert to.....

How Aquaponics Changes the Game
- Waist-high aquaponic gardening eliminates weeds, back strain and animal access to your garden.
- Reuse resources currently considered “waste”. There is no more toxic run-off from either hydroponics or aquaculture.
- Uses only 1/10th of the water of soil-based gardening, and even less water than recirculating aquaculture.
- Watering is integral to the system. You can’t under-water or over-water.
- Fertilizing is also integral to the system. You can’t over-fertilize or under-fertilize.
- Gardening chores are cut down dramatically or eliminated. The aquaponic grower only does

Aquaponics system is the most sustainable food production system in our world today. Aquaponics in a dynamic, natural, pond-type eco-system, produces both fish and organic vegetables; thus producing 2 streams of income. Aquaponics systems provide controlled environment where aquaculture (fish breeding/growing) and hydroponics (soil less plant growing) is integrated together in a symbiotic habitat. It is composed of a water re-circulating environment where the fish and plants live symbiotically. Both light and temperature are carefully controlled in an aquaponic system....

Send in the clones: Popular scion exchange could produce hundreds of fruit trees

By nadia drake

APTOS -- Some of the tastiest fruits cant be bought. Not because theyre too expensive, but because they dont exist in stores. However, they can be grown -- cloned, actually -- by the average backyard gardener.
On Jan. 16, the Monterey Bay chapter of the California Rare Fruit Growers will host a scion exchange, where cuttings from fruit trees -- called scions -- will be available to buy and graft onto root stocks. There also will be a short grafting workshop, and custom trees can be created on the spot.
Fusing a scion to a root stock produces a clone of the scions donor tree, with the same tasty fruit -- like, for example, the funny-looking, scrumptious Allens Everlasting apple, which is not available at the neighborhood Safeway...

Why is there very little take up of Aquaponics in the commercial arena around the world? Is it lack of knowledge, too new and unknown or just too hard to make it work profitably?

Its not to do with making it work properly; it has been put to bed by now that this technology works and works well. My work at University and in New Zealand shows categorically that you can match, and even sometimes better, hydroponic plant growth rates and the harvest quality of the plants. Its more about whether it is financially viable or not. All commercial entities need to...

this and that

It seems that any pet I get is either black, white, or both. Not sure why, its just the way I role I guess.

Besides that, my day was full of this and that, mostly love and hate.

Typically Id use Google Chrome, but it wouldnt let me play Dr. Mario for some reason...so I used Firefox. I started blogging on my other blog and got about 2000 words on there when I had to leave my internet source.

Unfortunately I was using Windows. Today, it made me hate it more. While I was on the way back here (Adams grandmas house) Windows decided to restart for God knows why (last time I checked it already updated) and, of course, closed every program without asking me.

I logged back on and Firefox restored about 500 of my words on my blogger. Good Firefox. But damn thats a lot missing.

Now this is why I love blogger. It saved my draft all the way up to the 2000th word. WIN!!!

And Its still love/hate between Dr. Mario. BLEH.

Insomniatic Throw Up

According to my spell check, insomniatic isnt a word. Thats ok...Im sure you can all figure it has something to do with insomnia.

Well thats exactly how I feel right now...wide awake when Id normally be asleep. Its not too late though, but still. There are three major things bothering me right now and they may surprise you.

1) Jobs.
Now this doesnt seem like a surprise to anyone that knows me...likely. Well truth be told. Where I live, I am at the mercy of what mom brings home. However, what she brings home is typically leftovers. Every blue moon, I get fresh food at home. Great...but comes with a catch. Whats that you say? I will be expected to eat whatever for at least two - three days. Another thing my mom bullshits with is dinner. "Oh I ate. Dont know why you didnt," she would say. "You ate at grandmas," Id say back with a glare. "Why didnt you come over?" "Because I had class/you forgot me at home/I didnt know they were having dinner!" Times like these lead to dinner-less nights which often get me into trouble...especially when I sneak in a secret stash of desserts mom has.

So I really want a job so I can eat fresh food at least three times a week. That would be nice.

On top of that, mom runs the power bill and doesnt manage money well in my eyes. Id like to move out. When she decided to splurge on company parties, fixing a car that had "Im NOT WORTH IT" written all over it, my sister that blows money on even dumber things...but doesnt pay the power bill so we have a poorly insulated freezing cold house during a storm....well that was a sure fire way to get me to NOT want to stay.

Im still waiting for that $130 she owes me. $100 of it was stolen.

2) Pets
Call me paranoid but Im having a huge freak out about the death of pets. Three died within two months....not something Im thrilled about. Six rats...I will likely be trying to rehome them if I move out on my own. However there is a high chance that if Im on my own for sure, they will stay. In 2nd place on the worry list is Tux. Since I didnt file taxes or have proof that my mom is a California State worker struggling, I asked my dear friend Ashley to have Tux done and Id pay her for it. This means he will be in her name and I have to have the license transferred over. No big deal...but Id really like to take home "my" cat. And in 1st place is my beloved Spyro who turns 10 March 28th. I have already had a dog die and I felt like he died in a crappy way and wasnt treated to my standards. Id like for Spyro to not go out the same way. Call me shitty but Id rather have him euthanized than to die in his sleep. I just dont do well with dead bodies. However this means Spyro must be in the best of care till his body just cannot function anymore. It wont happen if he continues to live at my grandparents house. As far as the dead body thing...well as much as I love all of my pets, theyre just harder to let go when you have had them for this long.

3) Marriage
Bet you didnt see this one coming. Adam told me he didnt want to get married...ever. Well ok whatever. But I do. I sat back and thought to myself...I wonder why he doesnt want to get married. Is he scared? Then I asked myself why do I want to get married? Am I scared? I cant believe I am going to admit it...but maybe I am scared. The problem isnt Adam...its me. Maybe Im afraid of him leaving or maybe Im just insecure. Whatever it is, I have realized that it is my problem...not his. I admit it. I want to get married because of my personal insecurities. I think it is a big lump that could later affect our relationship. First step, admitting. Next, fixing. Will work on that later.

So now I feel much better with all of this stuff off my head/chest. Still not tired but thats probably because of too much Dr. Pepper. Since you got this far...here is trivia.

In 1972, Dr Pepper sued the Coca-Cola company for trademark infringement based on a soft drink marketed by Coca-Cola called "Peppo." The soft drink was later renamed Mr Pibb.

Aquaponics Solves Many Difficult Problems

In the last month, people from 145 countries have visited the Portable Farms LTD websites.
The overall interest in aquaponics around the world has been growing steadily for the last four years and has now moved into a new phase of hyper growth. This is reflected in the number of visitors, the number of pages they have viewed, the length of time each person spends on our web pages, and the incredibly high number of return visitors that clearly indicates the thirst for aquaponics-related information has intensified.

OZZIES RANTS and RAVES

WELCOME

I know several of you wonder who and what I am. So I thought I might use a little of this space to give a bit of an insight to the Aussie who keeps bombarding you with this Journal. I wondered how I might do this and just this morning I received an email from a friend which had included in it a video that pretty much encapsulates what the  inner me is about. My thinking, beliefs and hopes for the future....
So here it is and I hope it doesnt chase you all away.

Now Back to The Job at hand:

First up, One families drive toward aquaponics and sustainability

MESA, Ariz. -- If you have a pool that youre tired of maintaining, but you dont want to spend the money to fill it or rip it out, Garden Guy Dave Owen might have a solution for you. Convert it to a garden.

Here is a video about two schools, that are highlighted in a news story for winning $10000 of grant money for their students’ projects linking sustainability education, community and industry partnerships.

Chris Newman, a onetime novelist, has converted 14,000 square feet in a former rose-growing facility into stream channels, gravel beds and water pipes to raise fish and grow vegetables commercially.

Lots of video today - Now some Education -

Fish farming is making a splash with students at a South Side university. They are hoping it will inspire others in their community to eat locally grown, healthy foods.

Aside from getting more information and unravelling different mysteries of the ocean, marine biologists also aim to learn more about processes that will ultimately provide for the growing needs of populations all over the globe.

Finally a major article from ATTRA.

Thanks for your company....

Tux Alyssa Spyro and jobs

Now what if I told you this blog had nothing to do with either? Well Id be lying.

First we will start with Tux. Who is Tux? Why does he have a name? What the hell is going on that makes Tux so important?

First, lets recap. My friend Ashleys mom found two kittens. Ashley kept one and named him kinky after the kink in his tail. The other one they will continue to feed till he no longer shows up or someone takes him. One night I had severe insomnia and decided to name him Tux. Why? For number one, he is a tuxedo cat...kind of. In general, tuxedo is a black and white cat that is predominately black.

According to wikipedia, A tuxedo cat is a bicolor cat with a white and black coat. The derivation of the term tuxedo cat is because the animal appears to be wearing the type of black tie formal wear commonly known in the United States and Canada as a tuxedo. Most tuxedo cats are also black mask cats, a common name for felines who, due to their facial coloration, look as if they are wearing a black mask over their eyes, and often over their entire head. To be considered a true tuxedo cat, the felines coloring should consist of a solid black coat, with white fur limited to the paws, belly, chest, throat, and often the chin, although many tuxedo cats appear to sport goatees, due to the black coloration of their mandible -- that is, the lower jaw and chin. Bicolor may also appear in the skin color. Paw pads may be black or pink. Bicoloring of the nose and mouth are also common.

Theoredically speaking, he is actually a mask-and-mantle type like the one in the picture. In fact he looks a lot like that.

Now what is so important about him? Sacramento has this wonderful thing called the Sacramento Spay Neuter Commuter which offers low cost altering of animals for extremely cheap. For male cats, its merely $20 to have the operation done. Big whoop right? Well heres the issue. The neuter comes in a package. The package includes the castration, rabies shot, and a license. The problem with this is, Im not sure if I want to own this cat (even though he is cool and Id take him home...doesnt mean I can.) I probably wont attach a license to him unless I get to take him home. So why pay $20 to have a cat neutered that isnt yours?

Well lets talk about why Alyssa is important first. For you readers that dont personally know me, she is a dear friend that I go to school with. So whats so important about her? Well nothing, its her cats. They are unaltered queens (thats what female cats are called for ya guys that didnt know...male being a tom) that are outdoor cats and churn out litters every year. Whats the big deal about this you say? It is estimated that well over a million cats are euthanized each year mostly due to kitten season - a time in the summer when cats produce the most litters. The millions are only the ones turned into shelters. These do not include the ones that are left to die on the streets. My deal is to help spay any cats that she may have when I get the money to (likely when I get a job) and alter any kittens she may have. This will help prevent at least 300 lives from being seized due to overcrowding of shelters. That means a lot to me.

hundreds of kittens like this one will be
euthanize this year by one shelter alone.
Imagine the rest that will die across the
nation.

Now on to Spyro. Spyro is turning 10 next month. What does he get for his birthday? Castrated! Well I will be sure to shower him with love. He is too old to go to the Sacramento Spay Neuter Commuter so I have contacted Sacramento SPCA to see if they will do it. If not, I will just pay extra and go to a real vet where they will probably give him pain meds. I plan on letting him eat canned food seeing as he is old and his recovery time will take longer. I love my dog and I think I should show it more.
My list for things to get Spyro once he gets to live with me again.
-oversized orthopedic bed
-fountain style watering system (where water is always running)
-a new vet...the one I like.
-microchip
-rolled leather collar with license and ID (and possibly microchip tag depending on what chip he gets)

and of course...sweaters because he has long, but very thin fur. I hate watching him shiver around the house.

And jobs...what about em? Well I still need one. I will be calling back and bugging the shit out of every place I applied.

=]

So yup. Then I can have money.

A list of what I will do if I have money

-possibly move out...
-adopt Tux...have him microchipped and buy him cat things including Soft Paws so he wont beat up Spyro.
-Take David, Thim, and King out to dinner.
-Spay Alyssas animals
-take kittens off craigslist and alter them
-BUY TEXTBOOKS
-be cool
-donate to animal shelters (tax write off...yessums)
-new rat cage

and yup

AND SO THE POWER THAT IS AQUAPONICS JUST KEEPS GROWING

Remember on Monday I wrote about both children and the More Mature members of our societies. Well I left out the middles. and the earlies. Say from 25 through to 50 years young. So what do I have to say about them. Plenty Brother..

For a start most people in this group are busy. They are busy from where I sit because to me, they look busy . They have lots to do, places to be, NOW. Yeah NOW is the priority in their lives because they are full of busy.

So how does a busy person have time to slow down to garden. Well! Its easy. Aquaponics....

Once an aquaponics setup has cycled and settled in, you dont have to spend hardly any time with it. Apart from selecting what we want for dinner, the only time I spend on our personal A/P unit is about 10 minutes per day and all I do is act like some commander surveying his troops. I walk around checking water levels to see if a bit of extra water is needed then I give the fish a bit of a feed, have a stroll through the grow beds checking that all is OK give the tomato plants a flick if its a Monday, (Yes Monday for me is flick day for the Tommys. Thats to spread the pollen in the air so fertilisation takes place. Just like you flick your sons ear if he needs it) Then Ill have a look through the plants for any bugs that may have found a way through the greenhouse shadecloth. There it is. A bit over an hour per week.

The only variation to that is a few seconds to adjust water flows if needed and once a week really study the fish, looking for signs of illness or stress and dealing with it as needed.

So that leaves plenty of time to go do "Busy" Plus youve provided a significant proportion of yours or your families food needs and the rest of the street as well if you are inclined that way.

Meanwhile we need to look for some new information......

What is Aquaponics? (Video)

by Chef Felisha on January 11, 2011
[Translate]
Aquaponics is a way of growing food that has a symbiotic relationship between the water, fish and vegetation. It is a wonderful alternative to other types of farming and when done well can add to the quality of our communities.

OK I think everyone is going to enjoy this one...:
ITPWC is a phytoremediation device based on the Eco-Machine systems developed by Dr. John Todd* and research done by the ITPWC team on aquaponics systems. Built in the men’s bathroom on the ITP floor, our inspiration for this project was to create a system that made a positive impact on air quality while also improving the overall ambiance of the space.

Finally from E-Zine articles:

Aquaponics media needs to be chemically inert, porous, stable and easily replenished. There are several aquaponic medias, like coconut husk, expanded clay, expanded slate, gravel, peat moss, perlite, rockwool, sand, and vermiculite. Each providing there own unique characteristics and benefits in different proportions.

Edible flower Black Pansy + gourmet flowers
While most people wont even consider flowers in food, me on the other hand find the consumption logically essential. If dietitians call for eating every colour of fruit and veggie possible then what would consuming a flower with all those phytochemicals do?  I find it humorous to think there is a whole class of food/ nutrients not even being consumed all because the idea of eating a flower seems "silly", when what really is silly is not eating them at all.

I tell ya, there is not a dish that doesnt look better for having them in it, even burgers, it just seems to make everything look like high class cuisine if you ask me. If you really want to impress your friends, when bringing a cake for birthdays/gifts/ or parties, take a few seconds to add some neatly placed flowers around and watch how your cake goes from (nice) to (food network fantastic).

Just remember, when people look at you weird for putting flowers in your food, just look back at them weird like, ......you dont put flowers in your food ? Its all relative.

OHara maple syrup festival

OHara tapped trees in maple forest

We decided to take a trip to the OHara maple sugar festival and see what it was all about, and let me tell you, it can be described in one word, maplelicious... thats a word, right?
In goodol Madoc is where you can find this feast of all things maple. Hankering for some pancakes laced in syrup, you gotem. Drizzed maple syrup candy-pops made over snow, gotem. Maple butter, candies, and syrup for sale, you betcha!. It all starts off on a horse drawn ride through the maple forest, then, a trip back in time through an old pioneer house to show you the instruments used to collect sap. They also have old knickknacks for sale, everything from quilts to cast iron hooks.

OHara pioneer house
OHara maple syrup festival
I just love these old pioneer houses, any log homes for that matter. These modern homes with steel beams and fake formaldehyde filled flooring just feels.... blah.
Ive always wanted a fireplace like this, just right there, no safety, keeps ya on your toes I suppose, lol.
The house was filled with treasures from yesteryear; wooden water buckets, snow shoes, old fashioned saws, candy presses, and all sorts of tools that were essential to life back then. To be honest, alot of the stuff they had there I would prefer to what we have today. Plastic this and plastic that, I see why they were healthier then my generation.

Old fashioned maple syrup supplies- OHara

I couldnt help but turn this photo in a vintage like feel. The wooden piece beside the wooden buckets was used to make candies, I think thats what the piece at the far left is too. There is a large screw beside the candy box that was used to drill the trees for sap and the wooden taps ( to the left of the screw ) were used to collect the sap from the trees, all of which dripped into wooden buckets. Wood, wood, wood,  does a body good.

Old fashioned snow shoes
For some reason whenever I see stuff like this I always want to try it out; it takes every ounce of my strength to not ask, I know they never would let me, and I know I shouldnt because Id probably break them, but I want to, oh lord how I want to.

OHara Maple butter

I always thought maple butter was maple syrup and butter mixed, and since I gave up butter, I never tried it. Turns out, its just maple syrup made in a specific, scientific like way. Its almost like soft maple candies, but smoother, more spreadable. In fact, right now I am eating this on a piece of bread with a mug full of how water and maple syrup -Canadian to the bone.

OHara water mill
They have this neat watermill and log building, Im not sure if its functional but I will definitely be coming back to see this place in the summer as there are a bunch of festivals and things going on when the warmer weather arrives; fingers crossed the mill flows.

Pioneer cemetery
Along the drive there was this old pioneer cemetery intermixed among the trees. Ive never seen anything like this, some of the plots go back to the 1800s

More for Newbies and then some

Keeping the trend going, There are several interesting sites that are just begging to be looked at that are full of vital information.
So often we can go to a site and after reading a few lines we find within ourselves a feeling of false security because there seems to be nothing that we havent already read or heard.
The problem is, there could be a little gem in the very next line or paragraph. Some experience or problem that has been overcome the hard way. Something that leaves us with "Thank God I kept Reading".
They say there is nothing you cant find on the web. But you need persistence and really well organized search techniques.
Or just keep reading what we have here......lol

the good the bad and the generic

well not really. The good is also bad but I will explain that later. First lets start with this random picture. I was actually commenting on Takas blog when this came up =]. It made me happy especially cause...well I alike Fable II. Yeah I know its spelled wrong but hey its in my favorite color!

So I asked this guy if he was dating this girl. He said something along the lines of "no because Im not sure if I really wanna be with her." I mean WTF...I agree with Taka on this one...dating someone is to see if they are marriage compatible with you...NOT to touch/make out with. He played two girls in two weeks...probably more.

You know who you are douche bag...cause we put you on the spot.

So now the good that is actually seen as bad.

Cull
1 : to select from a group : choose <culled the best passages from the poets work>
2 : to reduce or control the size of (as a herd) by removal (as by hunting) of especially weaker animals; also : to hunt or kill (animals) as a means of population control

from Merriam Webster

So why is this important? Well I was talking to a local rat breeder who says he culls unfavorable rats and gives them to the local snake and reptile rescue. I think I will do the same but sell to friends (as some of my friends buy from shops where the mice/rats are eating each other...meaning they arent healthy).

"In my opinion, culling is a necessary, albeit unpleasant, part of a responsible breeding program. While culling doesn’t necessarily mean killing (just removing from the breeding program) I’m assuming you’re referring to those that do kill the unacceptable specimen. A truly responsible breeder (in my opinion) is breeding to better the species/breed. That means discontinuing unhealthy DNA trails. Unless you expect them to spay/neuter every un-breedable pup/kit/etc they produce, culling is the only option.
In regards to reptiles eating the deceased, I don’t see the objection. It’s a natural part of life for them, and why waste potential food?"
-some chick in my myspace group

I have to admit this helped to shape my decision. As cruel as it can be...snakes need to eat too. And why not pull a pup with bad genes?

Ok and now the generic...

Taka and I went to go pick up Jacob this morning in Natomas...where he lives lol. So we did a U turn and there was a house that looked exactly like his...except painted blue. I was like "hey that house looks like yours!" We got to the end of his street and he pointed out a house that looked EXACTLY like his...same color and everything. Then we drove down the street a little and there again was the same house...same color but in reverse XD

I know its not just his area. A lot of the houses were David lives look the same.

way to go Natomas...so generic.

Its ok Antelope is like that too.

Spark io Raises 4 9 Million Lessons For Humboldt County

Spark Core
Spark.io just raised $4.9 million to hire more employees, increase the usefulness and user base of its cloud-based Spark OS platform, and increase its market presence and penetration. Microcontrollers (MCUs) were a key component of Sparks first product, Spark Core. Spark Core would be useless without the MCU, and knowing how to use and program the MCU was key to the early success of the product.

Can Humboldt County learn anything from the Spark.io story and replicate Sparks success? Yes, it can. Heres why and how.

Humboldts small town atmosphere, access to a beautiful natural environment, and the isolated, pastoral landscape which inspires creativity combine to provide a quality of life that attracts highly talented people to the area. However, Humboldt doesnt have a national or global reputation as a high-profile innovation community or a thriving high-tech business ecosystem. This means Humboldt MCU developers and entrepreneurs need to focus on the right things to be financially sustainable and have a chance for Spark-like success.

The highly talented people in Humboldt County who focus on the following six principles put themselves in a position to succeed like Spark did.
  1. Engage in emerging technologies and sectors. (While the focus is on long term technologies, be conscious of low entry cost opportunities which take advantage of short term trends. Italics edit on July 20.)
  2. Focus on interesting platforms that have high market potential.
  3. Build a core network of people, both in and outside of Humboldt County, who are passionate and highly skilled and are focusing those passionate skills on developing disruptive innovations in emerging technologies and sectors.
  4. Have a physical presence both in Humboldt and in a leading US location for the subject technology or sector.
  5. Use Kickstarter, Indiegogo, Tindie and other appropriate high-profile sites to launch products, determine mass appeal, gain funding, gain visibility.
  6. Build a network of support resources that allows long term serious product and platform development and insightful pivoting.
Only a small percentage of independent developers and startups who build and launch products and
companies will create a sustainable revenue stream, and even fewer will be as successful as Spark has been so far. However, talented people who successfully focus on the above six principles have a much greater chance of success than those who dont leverage those principles.

If youre interested in the Spark story and want more background, check out the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), TechCrunch (TC) and BusinessInsider (BI). According to the WSJ, "Spark.io “empowers engineers” by letting them create and improve products without relying on technology, features and access afforded to them by large companies...Having recently moved his
Spark Core breadboard circuit
business from Minneapolis to San Francisco, Mr. Supalla plans to use Spark.io’s freshly-raised capital on hiring, community-building and outreach to developers, and to manufacture and sell its Spark kits and operating system
." TC says, "Today, the company has announced a third product called Spark OS, which allows developers to integrate their projects with an open-source OS, compatible with iOS and Android...The project shifted from the Spark Socket...to the Spark Core and the Spark Cloud...“Our greatest challenge is the shifting landscape,” said Supalla. “The IoT is a big deal, and companies around the world are trying to figure out how they play in it. The market changes every week when someone launches an initiative, but luckily we move quick." Sparks team is currently 12 people, but will, BI says, "...grow to about 20-25 people within the next few months." Per BI, the Spark CEO had "targeted makers and the growing hobbyist community centered on building things with technology, but...was surprised to discover that customers wanted to use Spark to deploy across thousands of devices for work and enterprise purposes...The time and energy it takes to build a product from scratch, we can potentially cut off 6-9 months off development time and millions of dollars from R&D so you’re not starting from zero."

Im going to write a weekly blog post that follows up on opportunities for Humboldt County microcontroller users. The posts will focus first on the above six principles, then will explore emerging products and technologies, MCU-relevant entrepreneurial success news, and other topics that may help Humboldt microcontroller users achieve high-profile success, or at least long term sustainable profit.

If you have comments about Spark-like opportunities in Humboldt County, or if you are interested in expanding or strengthening the community of Humboldt microcontrollers users, send an email to me at arcatabob (at) gmail {dott} com.

HSUS PETA and SHARK I need help understanding

- start rant -

SPCA, Shelters...everyone...struggles to make money to feed animals and care for them. Why is it organizations that dont even have animals in possession are making millions?

is there a problem? Maybe I could make millions on people being retarded.

so four major things I HAVE to do in life

1) Take down PETA
2) Take down SHARK (SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness...mainly a rodeo focus)
3) Take down HSUS...or at least change them
4) Take down Microsoft

so whats wrong with PETA? Everything...
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wishes to destroy every pet animal. They have ben cited for throwing dead bodies onto highways and even spent millions on a freezer. Worst story I have been able to read (not the worst but those make me sick) is about a dog. She had a litter, was very skinny, and was diagnosed with cancer. PETA fought to keep her out of the shelter and to let her roam the streets. Is the freedom worth it? Doesnt sound very ethical to me.

Ok so most people think rodeos look bad. SHARK is a ridiculous organization based and targeted to city people and people that have no idea what rodeos are about. Rodeos are sports where a cowboy/girl demonstrates their ability to do things that were necessary back in the day. Roping a calf and tying it up is a lot safer than leaving it to survive on its own in the wilderness...or even leave males intact where they can go and break a cows back. So whats with bull/bronco riding? With bulls...how else did you expect to keep up with a loose bull? Chase it in a Mercedes? Same with horses (although that was normally used for breaking...which isnt used today).

HSUS...not the worse thing...but very racist like PETA. They are also against keeping pit bulls alive as well as other animals. However they focus mainly on encouraging proper care (when they arent trying to commit genocide). I just think they dont need the millions they make when they arent even helping shelters....except to commit genocide.

Microsoft was only included in this cause I hate it SO much that I feel I always need to include it in hate rants.

- end rant -

Golden laced polish chickens in Ontario ☼Canada ☼

As being new to owning chickens we wernt sure if they would come back after being let out, and the first time we tried it, it didnt turn out well. It resulted in me running around the property chasing after these birds with toes like velociraptors
( I may be exaggerating on that ).
But after a good hour or so I maged to corral them back in the coop.

We then found out chickens need time to grow used to theyre new home, so we gave it a few weeks and then crossed our fingers. Now, we really couldnt wait the full two weeks, we dont like animals being locked up, so, it was decided, enough is enough, if they fly off they fly off, it will be a $40 lesson.

Luckily, now that weve added a few more animals, everything seems to have changed. When the chickens were let out today, they didnt immediately run off, they stayed to watch what the ducks were up to. After that, they started to act like chickens, rustling through the leaves and dirt looking for bugs, climbing up trees and looking for places to lay a nest.

The golden laced polish chickens just happen to be one of my favourite breeds, The colour pattern on them is brilliant, with theyre boisterous hairdo resembling something of a mix between Einstein and don king. One thing to keep in mind, while they are an attractively showy bird, of coat and hairstyle, they are in no need of specialized care, in fact, they are an extremely hearty variety of chicken, putting up with frigged Canadian winters and our boiling heatwave like summers.

They enjoy scraps from the table, red wiggler worms from our compost, oats, sunflower seeds, cantaloupe, apples, kiwi, sprouts, and many other fresh foods.

Here is our rooster, youd think it would be annoying having a rooster right out back in your yard but honestly, I dont even notice. It also adds to the ambiance of a farm, with the goats mehing, and the ducks squakings, it only makes sense to have a roster crowing, after all, it is only just a few times in the morning, he doesnt seem to do much during the day. This might all change, depending on if we add more birds ( competition ) to the mix.
Muscovys and chickens getting along

He seems to like this corner, its close to the coop door but far enough in the bush that he can feel like a real chicken.

the four Bs

so Im being super cool and giving you four blogs in one! YEAH!!!

so lets start with blog one...

Birth.
Actually the birth lead to death. Turns out Navi popped out kids when she escaped her cage. However they all died except one lucky one that was holding on to dear life. I let her out to nurse him but instead she ate the face of a head...that she apparently was eating. So as far as I know she had four kittens/pups/ratlets...whatever you wanna call em. I gave this one a different section cause...it was unusual. As most of you know, I bred Eddy (a siamese) to Navi (a siamese). The outcome should have been a litter of all siamese. Babies develop the coat pattern a few days after birth. No fur...just a pattern on their skin. The survivor was all pink...meaning he was very likely a siamese (or all white...called PEW for pink eyed white). The half eaten head...was dark meaning that baby wasnt siamese. One body looked hooded or capped (black head is capped...black head with stripe like the ones usually seen in petco are hooded). The other looked to be some oddly done banned (hard to explain). In fact from my view she looked like a panda! Talk about rare...dont even think thats heard of! Navi was too into eating the dead head and not caring for the lucky survivor so I had Adam put him out. *sigh*

Blue Mourning
I didnt just lose all babies (and possible rare coat patterns) but one of my older rats died as well. one of my blue ones.

I feel even worse cause I didnt clean the cages due to all the deaths. Just needed a break.

Bob.
I had orientation for my intro to computer information science class. My teacher? Bob...the whitest name ever XD. Anyway he is really cool. Well he failed in the middle of his lecture. He went on for twenty minutes about spell check but then misspelled words when trying to explain how class discussion will work.

I like Bob =]

That and his last name is Irvine. How cool is that? Youre a computer teacher and your last name is the name of a city dedicated to technology. Yeahhhh....I wanna move to Irvine methinks. Good schools for kids and I could work for GOOGLE

=]

I dont like Raef Hall though

//0|/|>3|2 //|-|@7 //0|_|1|> |-|@|*|*3|| |ph | 7`/|*3|> |>|$(|_|$$|0|/@ ||/ 1337 XD

Black people fail?
Nope not this time XD Its all about white people today. First someone tried to speed past me in an old mini van. Turns out it was a white dude...just so he could sit at a stop sign? yeah wtf.

So then I get on campus. Cool. My teacher failed as mentioned above. He also failed by talking about organization and misplacing stuff.

I overheard one of my classmates talking about taking only online classes so she wouldnt get lost on campus. I mean first off who was on their own and didnt get lost their first day??? Youre incredible if its YOU (and it was your first time on campus). Second...its not a big campus...can we all agree on that?

I hop on the bus to go home. This kid gets off and gets back on. HE BLOCKED THE FRONT DOOR AND GOT PISSY WHEN PEOPLE NEEDED TO GET OFF!!!!!!!! like wtf.

So Adam came over and I fed him and we went to his place. There was a girl on the freeway texting with both hands and not looking where she was going. XDDD
